Leather is a strong, flexible and durable material. There is hardly another material that comes close to providing the features and benefits that well made leather provides. It has varied end uses, has a natural comfort, it is breathable and is synonymous with luxury goods. It has a distinctive touch and feel unlike other man made synthetic materials.
One of the other main advantages leather has, is that it can be repaired and restored which makes it sustainable.
Earlier in the 20th century, most leather interiors in cars and vehicles were made from vegetable tanned leather although this has now changed to synthetic tanning being the preferred option.
Regardless of the tanning method, almost all car interiors are fitted with something called as Pigmented leather – which has a coloured protective finish. These finishes are high-tech – they are elastic, wear resistant and very importantly, air and water vapour permeable.
The protective finish layer is made up of a layer of primer (adhesion promoter), followed by paint/ pigment and lastly with a flexible clear coating called ‘Topcoat’. These topcoats carry waxes and additives that give the surface a soft touch, prevent scratches, wear and cracking. This elastic finish must be protected for the surface to retain its new look and soft touch. However, friction and abrasion caused by getting in and out of the car often causes this protective layer to wear off.
Visible cracks and wear marks are common especially on entry areas like side bolsters on drivers seat which get used the most. Micro cracking can be observed on leather seats that are only a year old. Left unattended they can break through the layer and cause the colour layer to rub off and consequently let down the appearance of the whole interior.

we use high quality OEM grade leather care and restoration products by Geist. –
Spirit of Leathercare to carefully clean the leather with pH balanced plant and algae based cleaner to remove all dirt from the surface, then thoroughly degrease and prep the surface for the restoration work to begin.
One of the most skilful part of leather restoration involves mixing the paint to get an almost exact match that blends in with the rest of the interior. Once an accurate colour match is obtained, deeper cracks are filled using a flexible leather filler. The filler is allowed to dry naturally for around
30-40 mins after which any excess filler is gently removed using a flexible sanding pad and solvent.
This is followed by spraying multiple thin layers of paint using a fine airbrush or a spray gun. Each layer is dried with a heat gun and roughness removed using a very fine grit sponge backed sanding pad to achieve a smooth even finish. Finally, a protective top coat layer is applied at the appropriate gloss level to match the interior. This topcoat layer not only protects the paint but also provides anti-soiling and anti-friction properties to the surface. A further layer of protection in the form of dye & friction blocker is applied a day later to offer enhanced protection to the surface.
Besides bolster repair, there are several other skills and techniques, we have perfected after years of practice and training which allows us to fix burns, holes, tears, key scratches, remove tyre marks and dye transfer and on rare occasions even a full colour change of the interior.

What is Max Protect Ultimate Nano Coating

UNC-R is the world’s first Nano Coating that turns into a Rubber Membrane when cured in room temperature.
